We should mention a historical person, connected to the family on female branch, Tüköry Lajos freedom fighter hero, who have born in Körösladány, and died in Palermo. Domanek Terézia was his mother, and Schabach Károly cantor- teacher was his foster-father. His stepbrother Schtambach Károly was the husband of  Skonda Ilma, the postmaster of Körösladány.

Lajos was young, 18 years old, when he enrolled to militiamen, then, after the lost Transylvanian expedition, he fled to Turkey with the army of Bem, through the Vöröstorony pass. Together with more Hungarians, he enrolled to the Turkish army, and served as Selim effendi 1st lieutenant. He belonged to the milieu of general Bem, general Guyon Richard, major general Kmety György. He participated in more successful battles, and as appreciation of that, he got an order, and an embroidered silk scarf from sultan Medzsi.

The scarf, preserved in Körösladány.

When the Italian war of independence had rebound, and Garibaldi recruited solders, the scattered Hungarian “fighters of 48” enrolled to the “Ezrek” (Thousands) army. They hoped, that it could be the continuation of our lost war of independence. However in the battle of Palermo he was shot on his leg, and died by sepsis.

Garibaldi sad the speech on his funeral.

teacher.

A nicely illustrated exhibition and a thorough biography presents his walk of life. It was one of our basic sources.
